Description

You must have bisque fired pots ready for firing. Limit 3 pots per person. Participation limited to potters with experience, visitors welcome to observe. We will explore numerous Raku techniques, including Naked Raku, Copper Reduction glazes, and Saggar Firing. Naked Raku is a unique ceramic firing technique that produces unglazed, smoke-infused pottery with intricate crackle patterns. Saggar firing refers to placing wares like pottery inside protective containers called saggars during kiln firing. Saggars shield pieces from direct flame or heat. Combustible materials are added inside the saggars to generate special surface effects. Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in pottery. In Raku firing, all of nature's elements are used, earth, fire, air, and water. The earth is used to make the pot, then it's put into a reduction chamber kiln, then plunged into the water. The cold water halts the firing process. A lovely fact about raku is that its name literally translates "Happiness in the accident ".
