MIY offers a welcoming creative environment from Beginner level to the more experienced Artist. We offer numerous courses throughout the year from, Potter's Wheel, Hand Building, Glass fusion, Glass Painting, Mosaics, Speciality Courses, Workshops & Kids Camps. Our Classes are designed to fit your skill level.

MIY instructors provide guidance and knowledge backed by many years of experience.

Potter'S WheeL

 
Pottery Wheel

Introduction to the Potters Wheel

Ever since the movie Ghosts, the potter's wheel class has been on almost everyone’s bucket list. In this class, you will learn the basics of working with clay on the potter's wheel. In this two-hour class, the goal will be to make bowls while you get muddy and have lots of fun. You will learn how to center your clay and how to use the wheel to form it into bowls or cups. Once they have been glazed and fired, you are sure to be pleased with the final results of your first venture into working on the potter's wheel.

 

Beginning potters wheel

If the potter's wheel is something that you’d really like to learn, our four-week class is a good place to start. Methods of centering, pulling up the walls of your pot, trimming, glazing, and much more will be taught during this program. There will be two hours of instruction each week and 3 hours of practice time during the week. By the end of the four weeks, you will be well on your way to being a full-fledged potter.

 

Intermediate potters wheel

This more advanced class will take you through six weeks of exciting and challenging methods pottery. Everything from attaching cylinders to create tall vases, matching dinnerware to exploring carving designs into your pieces and more will keep you on your toes. The course runs two hours a week with 3 hours of practice time over a six-week period.

Hand Building

 

There are 2 levels of hand-building classes.

Introduction to hand building:

 

This 2-hour class is a good way to learn the basics of making fun objects out of clay. A wonderful class for young and old. Each time you take this class you will learn something new. You may make a planter or mug using a slab of clay and next time you will be pinching your clay into something wonderful. The possibilities are endless. The clay projects will be fired and glazed by MIY staff or you can return to the studio to paint your creation to your own liking.

 

Advanced hand building:

 

The 4-week course will focus on complex hand-building

projects. Each 4-week session will showcase a new

assignment.

Glass Fusion

Introduction to Glass fusing

 

 

The Glass fussing class has a special uniqueness to what it can offer to our guests. We are able to provide a large assortment of beautiful glass accessories exclusive to our studio for you to use in designing your glass project. Suncatchers, plates, or pendants can be made in this two-hour class. At the same time, you will learn about glass and its properties

 

Advance glass fusing class

The advanced glass fusing course meets for two hours a week for four weeks. There will be projects that will be worked on throughout the four weeks. Starting with the first-day making glass accessories to use in your designs and starting your first project. By the end of the course, you will have beautiful glass art to be proud of.

Glass Painting

 

Painting on wineglass/glassware.

Do you want to take your art project with you at the end of the class? Painting on glass is the way to go. Have fun choosing from a selection of wine glasses, drinking glasses, bowls, vases, and more to paint. For two hours you will be selecting from dozens of colorful food-safe paints to make your one-of-a-kind treasure

This is a 2-hour class that you can choose from an assortment of glassware to paint. Paints are vibrant, permanent, and food safe.

Introduction to Mosaics

This 4000-year-old art form uses bits of decorative glass, tiles, and other materials to create geometric designs. In this three-hour class, you will be able to pick from a large assortment of templates, glass, tiles, etc., to make your own distinctive statement of color. A finishing touch of grout will bring your artwork to life. At the end of this class, you will be able to take your creation home with you

 

In this 3-hour class, you will work with an amazing collection of colorful tiles, glass, and stones to create decorative objects to enhance your home.

MIY Ceramics Studio is now able to offer a variety zoom classes in most of the arts that we offer.

 

Clay hand building, mosaics, and painting on glass are to name a few. We are also open to working with homeschoolers.
