Time & Location
May 05, 2024, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Hollywood, 6791 Taft St, Hollywood, FL 33024, USA
About the Event
Cost: $25 per Artist (Limit 3 pieces per person)
***Only potter's wheel created pieces
**No Hand Built pieces, pleaseÂ
Recommended Shapes :
- Flared Neck Vase ShapesÂ
- Cylinder Shapes
- Simple Bowl ShapesÂ
**No bigger than 7 - 8 inchesÂ
The above basic shapes can yield great results in Raku firing. However, it's essential to remember that Raku is inherently unpredictable, and the outcomes can vary significantly from piece to piece. Each piece undergoes its unique transformation during the firing process, influenced by factors such as clay composition, glaze application, temperature fluctuations, and the combustion process. Embrace the element of surprise and celebrate the individuality of each Raku creation, knowing that its distinctiveness adds to its charm and beauty.
Safety Rules for Raku Events:
- Pay Attention to the MIY Team: Listen carefully to instructions provided by the MIY team and Senior MIY members who have experience in firing Raku pieces. They are there to ensure your safety
- Proper Clothing for Raku:
- Wear long pants, preferably jeans, to protect your legs from heat.
- Long sleeves made of cotton offer better protection against heat.Â
- Opt for closed-toe shoes, preferably leather, to protect your feet from hot surfaces.Â
- Avoid wearing synthetic clothing or shoes.Â
- Do not wear any loose clothing such as skirts, dresses, or wide sleeves that can catch fire or get tangled.Â
- Tie back long hair securely to prevent it from getting in the way.Â
- Follow Safety Instructions:Â
- Adhere to all safety instructions provided by the MIY team, including proper handling of hot materials and equipment.
- Use Protective Gear: When handling hot objects or working near the kiln, use appropriate protective gear such as heat-resistant gloves and goggles to protect your hands and eyes.
- Stay Hydrated: Ensure you stay hydrated throughout the event, especially if it's held outdoors or in hot weather conditions.
